Meniere’s Disease

Meniere’s disease is a relatively rare disorder of the inner ear, most often on one side which includes episodes of severe vertigo (room spinning) with a hearing loss and tinnitus which gets louder during these episodes. There is often a sensation of something in the ear, a feeling of fullness, which worsens during the episodes. The hearing will usually decline over time, as can the patient’s overall balance.

There are a range of treatments which can be helpful for this condition and these include lifestyle advice, medication and procedures such as intra-tympanic steroid injections. These injections are performed by Mrs Lambert under local anaesthetic in the clinic.

Managing the hearing loss and tinnitus is very important in this debilitating condition, and hearing aids may be very helpful. Vestibular rehabilitation exercises for the general imbalance that occurs is also recommended.
